Durham Catholic District School Board announces the 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award and Community Service Award Recipients

In recognition of Catholic Education Week, the Durham Catholic District School Board is honoured to announce the 2020 Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award and Community Service Award recipients. The Distinguished Catholic Alumni award recognizes former Durham Catholic students who have achieved significant success in their chosen pathway.

“This year’s Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award recipients are exemplary role models of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations,” said Janice Oldman, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Through their pursuit of personal excellence, they have made a positive contribution to their communities and professions.”

“As a Board, it is an honour to have the opportunity to recognize our incredible award winners” said Tracy Barill, Director of Education. “Each recipient has exemplified the goals of Catholic education in their chosen pathways.  Their lives and accomplishments serve as inspiration to our school communities.” 

The 2020 Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award recipients are:

  • Dr. Adam Sirek, Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School
  • Brendon Orian, Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School
  • Dinesh M. Fernando, Archbishop Denis O’Connor Catholic High School
  • Jessica Flanigan, All Saints Catholic Secondary School
  • Katie Mandville, Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School
  • Maria Ormiston, Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School
  • Shannen Cribbie, Father Don MacLellan Catholic Secondary School
  • Toni Grates, St. Mary Catholic Secondary School

The board is also pleased to recognize Pat Mockler as the 2020 Community Service Award recipient. Mr. Mockler has made a lasting impact as a volunteer in the City of Oshawa. Mr. Mockler has volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul for over 55 years and is the Grand Knight and Chancellor of the St. Gertrude Knights of Columbus Council.
