Durham Catholic District School Board Announces the 2021 Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award Recipients

In recognition of Catholic Education and Children’s Mental Health Week, the Durham Catholic District School Board is honoured to announce the 2021 Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award recipients. The Distinguished Catholic Alumni award recognizes former Durham Catholic students who have answered the call to serve their communities through the pursuit of personal excellence. Their success stories exemplify the values, attitudes and characteristics of the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations.

“This year’s recipients are exemplary role models who remind us that every day is an opportunity to make a difference,” said Morgan Ste. Marie, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Your incredible achievements provide hope and inspiration to future generations and speaks volumes to the value of Catholic education here in Durham Region.”

“As a board we are honoured to recognize our award winners who exemplify the goals of Catholic education in their chosen pathways,” said Tracy Barill, Director of Education. “It is our pleasure to award this distinction to the recipients for their commitment to excellence, leadership and life-long learning.”

The 2021 Distinguished Catholic Alumni Award recipients are:

  • Rev. Father Alexander Laschuk, Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School,
  • Ariana Sanchex Barbosa, Archbishop Denis O’Connor Catholic High School,
  • Dillon Mendes, St. Mary Catholic Secondary School,
  • Fallon Hayes, Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School,
  • Jordan Samaroo, All Saints Catholic Secondary School,
  • Meaghan Addante, Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School, and
  • Michael Cole, Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School.

Traditionally, the board recognizes the award winners at its annual Children’s Foundation Gala and looks forward to honouring the winners in person at a future event, when it is safe.
