2023-2024 Grade 9-12 Student Demographic Survey

Posted On Friday April 19, 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It is the mission of the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) to be an inclusive Catholic learning community that inspires every student to achieve their full potential through faith and education.

To assist in making evidence-based and informed decisions about supports and resource allocation, we will be conducting a Student Demographic Survey from April 22-26, 2024. Collecting demographic data allows the board to better analyze the trends and patterns in student achievement and student success.

The Student Demographic Survey offers students an opportunity to share information about their identities related to the protected grounds of the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC)

Completing the Student Demographic Survey
Grade 9-12 students will be invited to complete the survey during class time in the week of April 22-26, 2024. The following steps will be taken during class time to complete the survey electronically:

  • An invitation will be sent to Grade 9-12 students via their DCDSB student email address on April 22, 2024, and will contain a unique, confidential link to the survey.
  • Students must login to their DCDSB student email address to access their link.
    • Note: students use the same email address and password to login to Edsby that they will require to login to their Outlook email. Students will be instructed to go to: outlook.com/dclive.ca and click on the “sign in” button. They will use their Edsby email address and password to login to their Outlook email account.
  • Students will click on their unique link to access the survey – they will be prompted to enter their student email address, student number, and date of birth to access the survey portal.
  • Students will complete the survey (skipping any questions they do not want to answer), and then must click the “submit” button.
  • The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
  • The survey can be translated into 130+ languages, using the “translate” button at the top right corner of the survey page. The survey will be translated using Google Translate.

Grade 9-12 students who have opted out of survey completion will be provided with classroom work during that time at the teacher's discretion.

The voluntary survey will collect confidential student demographic data that will enable DCDSB to better understand our students, and to inform plans to improve student achievement and student success. A summary of the overall Student Demographic Survey data will be made available on school and board websites in Fall 2024.

If you have any questions about the Student Demographic Survey, please contact your school. Should you have any questions about the data collection process, please contact StudentSurvey@dcdsb.ca
